Every school administrator knows only too well how labour-intensive and time-consuming the recruitment process can be. After all, these are usually the people fielding the endless phone calls, sending out the application packs, chasing up applicants and generally co-ordinating the whole operation. Even with the advent of email, it can still be an administrative nightmare.
Consequently, Cathy Whiting, business manager at The Ravensbourne School in Bromley, Kent, breathed a sigh of relief when HireWire came along. 'Admittedly, the first advert I placed took a while because I had to upload the application form, job description and information for candidates,' she says, 'but it's all on the site now, so the only things that will need changing will be specific to the different roles that get advertised. It's just a case of inputting the job details, clicking and it's done. It's just so much quicker.'
Mrs Whiting is also all too aware of the positive environmental effect HireWire is having on what has always been a very paper-based procedure. 'Instead of typing up, printing and posting out piles of letters to let unsuccessful candidates know that they hadn't been shortlisted, I can now just go on to the site, click on their names and generate personalised but automated emails from templates. That's really time-saving for me and, importantly, it's also saving so much paperwork.'
With an average turnover of about six to ten staff every year, Mrs Whiting is relieved that the recruitment process is no longer going to take up a disproportionate amount of her time, freeing her up to get on with other equally important aspects of her job.Previous case study
