Clinical Informatics Research IT Support and Systems Engineer
£40,523 to £48,327 per annum
plus £2,623 London Allowance
The Engineer joins us at an exciting time. Big datasets and large-scale analytics are increasingly fundamental across a range of research disciplines. Rosalind, our new, collaborative research IT system, will provide a central HPC, data storage and private cloud resource for researchers. The post holder will be responsible for providing research IT support to BRC-MH scientists. This will include supporting use of the Rosalind HPC environment, managing the catalogue of hosted bioinformatics tools, architecting cloud solutions, evaluating software and hardware options for projects, advising PIs on IT budgets for grant proposals, helping to wrangle very large research datasets and developing and delivering training materials.
The ideal applicant will ideally have an understanding of modern molecular biology techniques (although not essential) and a familiarity with common software tools, datasets and workflows in bioinformatics. They will require excellent Linux administration skills, an understanding of high performance compute environments and demonstrable experience architecting cloud solutions. Previous experience of administering Openstack and Ceph is desirable. Fluency in at least one programming language is essential, as is some knowledge of DevOps tools. The applicant will require highly developed problem solving skills, an aptitude for rapidly picking up new technologies and the ability to communicate technical information to a range of audiences.
The selection process will include competency based questions, a presentation, and a panel interview.
