Chemistry at King’s College London is entering a new era. As part of a significant expansion of the Department of Chemistry, the University is seeking to appoint several visionary Professors with an excellent track record of innovative chemistry that transcend the traditional discipline boundaries. The posts provide a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the future of Chemistry at one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in the UK. King’s vision is to create a contemporary department, which enshrines the rigour of the subject but is renowned for groundbreaking interdisciplinary science. This ambition is being realised by considerable investment at King’s in Science and Technology, including further teaching, lectureship and reader appointments within, or jointly with, the Department of Chemistry.
A focus of the department lies in realising the transformative power of Chemistry at the interface with Biology and Medicine. Chemical Biology is a key strategic area in which we have notable expertise. We particularly encourage applications where core Chemistry is being used to pioneer new directions in Chemical Biology, Biomaterials, Synthetic Biology, Nanomedicine and Nanoscience, complementing existing strengths within the department and King’s. This list is not exhaustive and we welcome applications across Chemistry that are imaginative and interdisciplinary.
The Professors will provide academic leadership of Chemistry across King’s and in the strategic development of cutting edge future directions in the University. The prime position of King’s in central London is highly advantageous, benefiting from the advances in Science, Technology and Enterprise occurring at a pace across the capital. Notably, King’s is a partner with the landmark Francis Crick Institute, which will offer tremendous
opportunities to work with world leaders in biomedical research to understand the chemistry of life.
Candidates must have an outstanding research profile with an excellent publication record, international esteem and evidence of substantial research funding. The successful candidates will play key roles in developing departmental strategy and in initiating and leading major collaborative endeavors within King’s, across London and internationally. They will also mentor and inspire junior colleagues as well as contribute to the design and delivery of the
department’s innovative teaching programme.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 31 May 2015. There will be a further cycle of applications after this date though.
Applications should include References, a CV and one page statement Applications should be submitted, along with a CV and a one page statement outlining:
